The Carolina Panthers might have set their sights on a development project at quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft in the form of Jacob Knipp.

College prospect Jacob Knipp is on the Carolina Panthers’ radar as a possible late-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, the team held a video call with the Northern Colorado quarterback earlier this week after attending his pro day.

The organization clearly likes what they have seen from the player so far during the evaluation process. How Knipp fared during the video call with Carolina’s decision-makers will go a long way to determining whether they take a late-round flyer on the player later this month.

Knipp has gone under the radar somewhat given the high-profile players at the position entering the NFL in 2020. His college statistics are nothing to shout about. But the Panthers appear to see something in the player that the majority of other teams do not.

The Panthers recently bet their future on quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, penning the signal-caller to a three-year, $63 million deal worth $33 million guaranteed. They also parted ways with former Most Valuable Player Cam Newtown after a prolific spell with the franchise.

New head coach Matt Rhule will be hoping Bridgewater’s presence is enough to keep them competitive in the NFC South. P.J Walker is projected to back up the high-profile acquisition, with 2019 third-round pick Will Grier also on the roster.
