Dan Orlovsky predicts the scenario of Cam Newton to the Dallas Cowboys
ESPN’s very own Dan Orlovsky predicts that problems between the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott, Cam Newton will end up in the Lone Star State.
Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up your seatbelts as this will be a bumpy ride. At this point in time, free agent quarterback Cam Newton has yet to find a new home but is practicing patience until he finds the right fit. Of course, the former quarterback of the Carolina Panthers will want either a guaranteed starting job or at least the opportunity to compete for one.
The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, have some issues of their own when it comes to their quarterback situation. Dak Prescott was anxious to test the waters of free agency but was denied by the Cowboys as they franchise tagged him, keeping him on the team despite being disgruntled. In Prescott’s eyes, he wants a long-term multi-million dollar contract that makes him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
It’s a matter of opinion if people believe he should or shouldn’t get such a deal but the Cowboys see things a bit differently than he does. At the end of the day, it’s all about business and the Cowboys hold all the cards at least for now when it comes to Prescott’s services. However, an interesting scenario could occur that involves the Cowboys actually landing Newton to be their starting quarterback this upcoming season.
Dan Orlovsky predicts Cam Newton signs with the Dallas Cowboys
One has to give credit as ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky crafted a convincing situation where this could all turn into a reality. In Orlovsky’s scenario, the Cowboys see that Prescott is unhappy and unwilling to budge from the amount of money and length of contract he should get so they give him permission to seek a trade after signing his franchise tag. They will then draft quarterback Justin Herbert out of Oregon with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after signing Newton to a short-term deal. Take a look below to see how he broke it down:
This scenario would make a lot of sense for both sides as Newton will be able to be a starting quarterback again and can help mold Herbert for the future. If it’s just a one or two-year deal for Newton, that would be perfect since it gives him some stability and a golden opportunity to prove his mentoring abilities.
If the Cowboys sign and trade Prescott, they could get several more draft picks in their arsenal to continue building for a better future. All in all, this scenario, crazy as it sounds, could very well be on the table if everything falls into place. At least for Newton, he can add playing for America’s Team to his impressive resume after spending his entire career with the Panthers. Who knows, he could even resurrect his career and prove to the football world he still has a lot to offer as he does his best to bounce back from recent injuries.
