FanSided just released a mock draft that joins others in predicting the Carolina Panthers landing linebacker Isaiah Simmons of Clemson with the No. 7 overall pick.

With the 2020 NFL Draft on the horizon, you’ll be hearing a lot of rumors and speculation about what direction the Carolina Panthers will head in. Many mock drafts have predicted that the Panthers will more than likely address their defense with the No. 7 overall pick. Some predict they might pull a surprise move and take the “best player available” route regardless of position if they feel they’ll get a once in a generation player.

In a recent mock draft by Conor Dorney of FanSided, he predicts that the Panthers will indeed address their defensive woes by selecting Isaiah Simmons out of Clemson. This would be one heck of a pick as not only would he address a major defensive need but also be an instant starter this upcoming season.

In the grand scheme of things, the Panthers need to use their first-round draft pick on a can’t miss prospect. Someone that has all the credentials to become the next franchise player on the defensive side of the ball. Someone that has the star potential to truly begin this rebuild the right way. Someone just like Simmons who will be a force to reckon with immediately upon arrival.

Isaiah Simmons brings instant credibility to Carolina Panthers defense

Simmons has a plethora of starting experience, has played in a National Championship Game, and will have an easy transition to the pros. He will bring instant credibility to a defense that has been in dire need of a facelift. Simmons is the kind of defensive player that you can easily build around to enjoy many years of success if done correctly.

On top of all his collegiate success, Simmons also earned the Butkus Award as being the best of the best when it comes to linebackers. In four years at Clemson, Simmons was a beast every time he was on the field as he totaled 238 tackles, 11 sacks, 28.5 tackles for a loss, and six forced fumbles.

One can only imagine the kind of impact Simmons will have in his rookie season. Considering the sudden retirement of linebacker Luke Kuechly, Simmons will help lessen the blow of missing him and start creating his own legacy. Of course, it won’t be easy to ever replace Kuechly’s presence on the gridiron but Simmons has the potential to be the next household name on defense sooner rather than later.

Overall, Dorney’s mock draft joins the list of others where they truly believe that some interesting scenarios might pan out for this to be a reality. Perhaps Derrick Brown of Auburn gets selected before the Panthers are on the clock which opens the way to draft Simmons. Who knows, maybe they value Simmons higher than Brown on their draft board thanks to everything he brings to the table. At any rate, if it does end up being Simmons, it’ll be a great sight to see him doing what he does best at the pro-level wearing a Panthers uniform.
