Carolina Panthers: Full 7-round 2020 NFL Mock Draft
By John Ellis
Antoine Brooks, Jr. is a tackling machine from the Big Ten who does not mind putting pads to an offensive player with the force of raging bull.
This is something that could hugely benefit the Carolina Panthers, both in 2020 and long term. Brooks Jr. needs a little refinement on his game. But there is real potential there and he should more than warrant a mid-round consideration.
Brooks Jr. is credited with 85 combined tackles, one fumble recovery, and one interception in 2019. He has impressed considerably during the evaluation process and is a high-character individual that would fit in well with what the Panthers are trying to install within their defense.
He is the perfect fit in the nickel cornerback slot during the early stages of his development thanks to his strong ability to wrap up receivers at the point of contact.
Kyle Crabbs from The Draft Network had this to say on Brooks Jr. in a recent scouting report.
"“Antoine Brooks Jr. projects best as a nickel sub-package defender in the NFL. Brooks Jr. brings a strong presence off the edge as a D-gap run defender and blitzer and pairs it with good short area quickness and stout tackling. His functional athleticism may prevent him from playing an every down role on the back end but this is a potential special teams ace and strong complimentary asset with valued skills against the pass (shallow zone and man to man) or against the run.”"
