2020 NFL Mock Draft: Carolina Panthers land Brown, Jeudy to Jets, More
Are you ready for the exciting Gardner Minshew era on the Jacksonville Jaguars? We’ll see how Minshew does in a full-time role at quarterback but if there’s anything he’ll need to thrive as a starter, it’s a new wide receiver.
The Jaguars get lucky here and realize they are able to draft the top wide receiver in this year’s draft. Wide receiver Ceedee Lamb out of Oklahoma is going to be hauling in touchdowns with ease and precision in 2020. With over 3,000 receiving yards in college and 32 touchdowns in just three years with the Sooners, he’s going to enjoy hopping on the Minshew train early and often in his rookie year.
Lamb has made so many incredible plays in college that it’s going to be exciting watching what he can do at the pro-scene with the powers of Minshew. He has star talent written all over him as one can only imagine the nicknames that will be created for the new Minshew-to-Lamb connection on the Jags.
When it comes to draft boards and offensive linemen, several draft analysts and pundits actually have offensive tackle Andrew Thomas ranked higher than Mekhi Bechton out of Louisville. The Cleveland Browns get to choose here and ultimately decide on Becton.
The thought process here is that regardless of what player they go with, they must draft the best available offensive tackle to protect quarterback Baker Mayfield. Becton is huge at 6-7 and 364lbs who will be a staple on the Browns’ offensive line for a very long time. He’s quick, disciplined when it comes to assignments, and does well in either run or pass situations.
Opposing defenders are going to have a tough time when going up against Becton as he’s as tough as they come. Ultimately, the Browns feel he fits better with what they’re trying to build around Mayfield and realize he’s the best man for the job.
Boy oh boy, new general manager Joe Douglas has a tough decision to make here for the New York Jets. Do they take offensive tackle Andrew Thomas as he’s surprisingly available to fix a major area of need or go with a wide receiver? Ultimately, the Jets lost Robby Anderson via free agency so Douglas decides to boldly take wide receiver Jerry Jeudy out of Alabama, much to the rage of Jets fans everywhere.
At least the Jets’ offense and quarterback Sam Darnold get a proven wide receiver that will consistently get the job done. Jeudy totaled over 2,700 yards and 26 touchdowns with a knack for being a flawless route runner. He’s easily an upgrade over anyone in the positional group and will show it come training camp.
Darnold will undoubtedly love throwing touchdowns to Jeudy on a daily basis but hopefully, the Jets add a few offensive linemen in the later rounds of this year’s draft. At any rate, once Jets fans see how great Jeudy can be once the football is in his hands, it’ll help ease the blow that they might have just missed out on a golden opportunity for a stud of an offensive lineman.
