The Carolina Panthers have plenty of needs ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, but which positions need to take priority?

To say the Carolina Panthers have a number of different needs heading into the 2020 NFL Draft would be something of an understatement. They are in the midst of a roster overhaul and must get their selections right if the organization stands any chance of being competitive in 2020.

General manager Marty Hurney is under enormous pressure to continue his excellent recent success with his picks in the days ahead. The Panthers boast just eight selections heading into the Draft. Although there is fierce speculation linking them with a trade down as the big night approaches.

This could be the most significant Draft in recent memory in terms of Carolina’s overall ambitions going forward. Any wrong moves at the top end have the possibility to set their long-term plans back considerably.

It is something that Hurney and new head coach Matt Rhule will be fully aware of. Both stand a good chance of coming out of this Draft on the front foot given their knowledge of the college system. But which positions will take precedent will be the most crucial decision of all.

Judging by their moves in free agency, the defense is going to be looked at early and often with their picks. Carolina’s depth is a grave concern heading into 2020 in an NFC South that expected to be highly competitive.

The Panthers will need to act accordingly regarding threats within the division. It might also be prudent to avoid temptation if someone like Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovialoa is available when they are up at No. 7.
