Carolina Panthers need to target Trevon Diggs in Round 2
The Carolina Panthers are on a high note as they prepare for Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. They need to add a premium cornerback in Round 2 as Trevon Diggs is exactly the player to target.
In case you missed it, the Carolina Panthers earned high grades and a ton of praise for drafting defensive tackle Derrick Brown with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. It’s a step in the right direction as the Panthers need to use this year’s draft to address all their glaring needs on defense. Make no mistake about it, it doesn’t stop there at defensive tackle from here on out.
At this point in time, the Panthers still need to draft new young talent at cornerback, linebacker, and at safety. Cornerback Trevon Diggs out of Alabama is still available as he heads into Day 2 of this year’s draft.
Tonight, the Panthers currently have two picks to work with, No. 38 in Round 2 and No. 69 in Round 3. Ideally, if Diggs is still available when they’re on the clock with the No. 38 overall pick, they can’t go wrong drafting him so he can bring an immediate impact to the positional group.
Trevon Diggs would be a great draft pick by the Carolina Panthers

At 6-1 and 205lbs, Diggs brings a lot to the table as he’d be an instant upgrade at cornerback. He has great speed and toughness to handle anyone in pass coverage. With experience as a wide receiver and kickoff/punt returner, Diggs brings a lot of versatility to a team that needs more playmakers.
Since he spent all four of his collegiate years at Alabama, he learned a plethora of defensive knowledge under the guidance of legendary head coach Nick Saban. If it’s one thing he knows, it’s coaching and training defensive players to be future cornerstones on NFL teams.
Diggs was a premier cornerback on the Crimson Tide as he totaled 69 tackles, four interceptions, and 17 passes defended. He started a ton of games and progressed nicely as many scouts believe he can be a starting cornerback as soon as this upcoming season.
With great situational awareness on defense, he does well in making his presence known early and often in football games. When it comes to those 50/50 balls coming his way, Diggs will almost always be disruptive to the point where opposing wide receivers will easily get frustrated due to how quick and instinctive he is. This is a player that the Panthers need on defense as it would be great to build around him and his unique attributes for years to come.
Overall, the Panthers could use a press cornerback like Diggs that can help with their overall pass coverage. He’s a player they should target as too many times last season they were dinked and dunked on at will by opposing offenses. At least as with Diggs in the defensive secondary, it’s another big step to finally have a defense worth speaking about.
