Carolina Panthers: Can Kenny Robinson make most of NFL chance?
By Dean Jones
Can Robinson take advantage of NFL chance with Panthers?
Kenny Robinson has all the physical attributes you are looking for in an NFL safety. The 6-foot-2 prospect has good size for the position and the scope for improvement is significant.
Robinson has something college athletes do not have before making a leap to the next level. This is an experience in a professional environment and should make his transition a smooth one.
His time in the XFL has clearly done him the world of good. Robinson also has the scope to play cornerback thanks to his height and fluidity going down the field.
It is clear that the Carolina Panthers wanted to go down the route of versatility with their defensive picks in the draft. Robinson also fits their mold of aggressiveness and plays with a violent streak that can sometimes work to his detriment.
Robinson’s strong anticipation and awareness make him an enticing prospect and one that can help Carolina at safety or as a nickel cornerback. He is not afraid to put his shoulder down and attack running downs and closes space well in coverage.
While his tackling does need some work from a finishing perspective, Robinson represents good value in the fifth round and could emerge as a potential starter. The Panthers did trade up to land another safety in Jeremy Chinn. But there is speculation regarding the player becoming a possible cornerback if he coaches up.
Carolina does have Tre Boston, T.J Hill, and Juston Burris to provide a veteran presence in the short-term. They now have youthful energy with Robinson and Chinn that can also be a real asset on special teams.
There has been nothing but positive vibes surrounding Robinson since his college dismissal. He will need to further build on this momentum and make the most of what could be an exciting opportunity.
