With the 2020 NFL Draft in the books, the Carolina Panthers are getting a ton of praise for a solid draft class. Kenny Robinson looks to be one of the biggest steals of this year’s draft.

As the Carolina Panthers are undoubtedly ecstatic about their 2020 NFL Draft class, all sights are now on the journey ahead. With training camp on the horizon, now it’s time for the Panthers to focus on doing their best to field a competitive team this upcoming season. By using every single one of their draft picks on defense in this year’s draft, that aspect of the team should be a whole lot better than that we’ve seen over the past few years.

Of course, a true measuring stick of an NFL general manager is how many successful good players they select in the later rounds of a draft. Sure, you can get away with your first-round pick since it’s an easy decision but the best of the best know how to find those hidden gems in the middle to late rounds. In Round 5, the Panthers selected safety Kenny Robinson who made quite the name for himself in the XFL and looks to be such a player.

Robinson was an XFL standout as he showcased his speed in defensive coverage and even totaled 21 tackles as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks. It’s only a small sample size but Robinson did haul in two interceptions as he got rave reviews for what he was doing within the first few weeks of the XFL regular season.

In an article written by Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus, Robinson actually landed on his biggest steals of the NFL Draft article. Here’s what he had to say about Robinson:

"While watching Kenny Robinson at West Virginia and in the XFL, one thing was apparent: he is a playmaker with sharp instincts. He made 14 plays on the ball at West Virginia and added two interceptions in the XFL. His range and angles playing deep safety are just beautiful."

It’s true, after watching some highlights at West Virginia and what he accomplished with the XFL, the Panthers got a hidden gem here. Robinson will easily be used in sub-packages to bolster the overall pass-coverage of the Panthers. He has very good speed and once he gets some high-quality coaching and training done at the NFL level, there is no telling how great he can be.

The potential is there as now it’s all about nurturing Robinson’s natural-born talents to take his career to the next level. It’s no secret that he’s had a tough past but he’s on his way to overcoming them with a huge opportunity to prove his worth on the Panthers.

Overall, Treash of PFF is right in that Robinson will indeed be a name to watch as he begins his transition to the NFL. It won’t be easy but based on what he’s been through already, he will take full advantage of this chance to prove that even though people make mistakes early on in life, they can still bounce back and be stronger than ever before.
