Why are the Patriots not interested in Newton?

Given the lack of quality options available at the quarterback position with the New England Patriots, it seems strange that Cam Newton is not an option for them.

They are said to keen on the ability of Jarrett Stidham going forward. But he is vastly inexperienced and the alternative is Brian Hoyer, who has been lackluster at best during his NFL career to date.

Tom Brady’s departure leaves a gaping hole. But it could also be a spark for a new sort of offense in New England. Newton would provide an ability to keep plays alive not seen at the franchise before.

Whether Bill Belichick would want to go away from what has worked for so long is another matter entirely. He is renowned for being incredibly stubborn and the head coach seldom listens to those that question his methods of securing success.

Newton is high-risk, high-reward pickup for any NFL team and it might be something Belichick decides is not worth the risk. However, the Patriots will not want to become also-rans in the absence of Brady and might need to take a different approach to what they currently have under center.

It shouldn’t be too much longer before Newton finds himself on another franchise. The Carolina Panthers may have been right in their decision to part ways with their first-round pick from 2011. But the timing did not give the player a good opportunity to compete for a starting role elsewhere.

If the reports are correct, this is not going to be in New England despite Belichick being known for giving underperforming veterans who could possibly cause problems the benefit of the doubt.
