Carolina Panthers: CBS Sports picks 3 teams still possible to land Cam Newton
Cam Newton still doesn’t have a new home as CBS Sports recently picked three teams still possible to land the former quarterback of the Carolina Panthers in a backup role.
With the 2020 NFL Draft officially in the books, many teams have finalized their plans at quarterback as they prepare for training camp ahead. Several teams have drafted new players to hopefully be their future franchise quarterback which makes things a bit harder for free agent quarterback Cam Newton.
After nine years with the Carolina Panthers, a new leadership regime in place decided it was best to part ways with their former starting quarterback. They’re taking their chance now with newly signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and are hoping that he can hold down the fort over the next few years as they rebuild the team for better seasons ahead.
2020 will go down as the year defense took center stage in this rebuild. The Panthers spent all seven of their draft picks on defensive players and if anything will likely draft a future franchise quarterback either in 2021 or 2022. For now, they’re set at quarterback as Newton will probably have to wait a few more months before the right situation comes along but will likely not be what he truly wants.
The Cardinals, Chargers, and Seahawks are potential new homes for Cam Newton

In a recent article written by Coby Benjamin of CBS Sports, he wrote about the three NFL teams still possible to make sense for Newton to sign with. The Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Seattle Seahawks all could be the best possible fit for Newton if he’s willing to accept a backup quarterback role.
The truth of the matter is, anything can and will happen in the NFL as an injury or a severe decline in play could give Newton another shot to prove he’s still got it. The jury is still out on whether or not Newton can even still execute at a starting quarterback level but there aren’t any teams out there willing to just hand him such a role right off the bat.
If Newton is able to accept that a potential restart is needed by being a backup off the bench, that would be his best bet. Due to injuries and just not getting the job done successfully over the last few years with the Panthers, Newton has to show any of these three potential new teams that he’s willing to take a step back in order to move forward. Bridgewater did this perfectly over the last few years with the New Orleans Saints as Newton could follow suit to make his case all over again.
For now, Newton is on the outside looking in and will more than likely have to wait to see how training camps unfold for teams in order to have one interested in his services. Since he hasn’t signed with a team now that it’s been a few days after this year’s draft, it’s likely he’ll just have to be on standby ready for the right opportunity. The only thing is, it’ll more than likely be in a backup role for the first time in his NFL career.
