Panthers Draft: 5 players Carolina missed out on in 2020
By Dean Jones
K.J. Hill – WR (Ohio State)
A wide receiver was another area where the Carolina Panthers considered during the draft. After using their first six selections on defense, they were expected to add to their offense in the final round.
This was not the case, and it could be due to the fact former Ohio State wideout K.J. Hill went off the board one spot before they were due to pick at 221.
Hill enjoyed a tremendous amount of success with the Buckeyes during his college career. He is an accomplished route runner and is able to find soft spots in the secondary with ease.
The prospect projects to be an eventual slot receiver given his relative lack of burst off the line of scrimmage. But he has good hands and a high football IQ so Hill was a solid-value pick for the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round.
While this was a blow to the Panthers, they were able to make history by taking cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver with their final pick. The player projects to be a work in progress that might be able to contribute with a couple of years’ experience at the highest level.
The Panthers did pick up Omar Bayless as an undrafted free agent, who is a prolific wide receiver that has a shot of making the team.
