Panthers draft: What would Trey Lance bring?
The Carolina Panthers are really hoping their fortunes don’t come to this. They invested a tremendous amount in getting Teddy Bridgewater from the New Orleans Saints on a three-year, $63 million deal that includes $33 million guaranteed during free agency.
While few would argue Bridgewater is deserving of another opportunity for a prolonged starting role in the NFL. The jury is still out regarding his ability to lead a franchise and should he struggle during his first year with the Panthers, they may decide to cut their losses.
There is no doubt Trey Lance is an intriguing prospect that has the ability to be a prolific starter at the next level. He is the perfect size for a quarterback at 6-foot-3 and possesses the dual-threat ability that seems to be all the rage in the NFL.
The redshirt freshman broke out in 2019 that resulted in some phenomenal stats. Lance completed 66.9 percent of his passes during his first-year under center for the Bisons. This resulted in 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns without throwing a single interception.
Lance was also a significant threat running the ball to further enhance his overall potential. The quarterback had 1,100 yards from 169 carries in 2019. This also included 14 touchdowns and a 6.5 yards-per-catch average.
If Lance can build on the most positive of campaigns, then there is no telling what he can go on to achieve in the future. The sky is the limit for him and if the Panthers draft position indicates a struggle then the gunslinger is going to be a very enticing proposition with their first pick.
