The Carolina Panthers are urging fans to participate in their annual Keep Pounding Day, which will take on a virtual format this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year’s Keep Pounding Day initiative by the Carolina Panthers is going to have a very different feel to it. However, the franchise still wants the community to rally round despite social distancing measures relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

The second annual event, which takes place today (May 1) was implemented as a community scheme to honor the legacy of former Panthers player and coach Sam Mills.

A statement on the Panthers website, read:

"“His enduring spirit and gift of the “Keep Pounding” rallying cry continues to unite and inspire both fans and players alike. Last year’s inaugural Keep Pounding Day featured 25 hands-on service projects in recognition of the team’s 25th season and benefitted communities across North and South Carolina.”"

Keep Pounding Day will see participants take part in “virtual volunteerism” throughout the occasion. Fans are encouraged to either use their own initiative with acts of kindness to those in need or look at what non-profit organizations across the community need during this unprecedented time of crisis.

Director of community relations Riley Fields had this to say on Keep Pounding Day.

"“Panthers fans have always been generous in their support of the team’s community outreach efforts. While shelter-at-home and social distancing measures make it difficult to come together for traditional hands-on efforts, we look forward to seeing how fans develop their own unique ways to uplift the community. From participating in virtual volunteer opportunities to leaving a note of gratitude for a mail carrier, simple acts of kindness help bind us all together in this challenging time.”"
