Carolina Panthers QB Option: Mike Glennon

Mike Glennon failed miserably when starting for the Chicago Bears. That being said, he represents one of the better backup options available and has proven to be a valuable asset in a No. 2 role.

The Las Vegas Raiders raved about his ability to assist Derek Carr in the film room and during games in 2019. This would be hugely beneficial to new Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater going forward.

Both P.J Walker and Will Grier have one season of combined NFL experience between them. So they will offer little in the way of advice. Glennon is also more than capable of filling in and managing a game if Bridgewater has to miss some time.

Glennon has amassed a 60.9 percent career completion percentage on his way to 5,163 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. He has received little interest in the free-agent market and this could mean the player would be willing to accept the veterans’ minimum for a one-year stay in Carolina.

Given the Panthers’ lack of salary cap space, this would be a good option for them to go with. Glennon comes with a high football IQ and what he lacks in game-changing arm strength, he more than makes up for with knowledge and ability to go through progressions quickly.

Head coach Matt Rhule might be happy with what he has going into training camp. But if Walker and Grier fail to impress the coaching staff then Glennon should be on the shortlist.
