Rumor: Carolina Panthers show interest in LB Haason Reddick
By Dean Jones
How would Haason Reddick help the Carolina Panthers?
There is no doubt that having Haason Reddick on the Carolina Panthers would do more good than harm. He knows what is expected from head coach Matt Rhule and his versatility is another key element that makes him a lively trade option.
He is due to make $2.3 million in base salary and count $4.3 million against the Arizona Cardinals’ cap in 2020. A possible departure is not entirely out of the question after they made the move to draft do-it-all linebacker Isaiah Simmons No. 8 overall.
This is expected to be a period of transition to the Panthers and there will be growing pains aplenty with their young defense next season. Having someone like Reddick would provide additional experience to the second level and guide the rookies during the early stages of their development.
It also represents an attractive option for the player, who knows an extension from the Cardinals is unlikely. Moving to the Panthers and playing well could see his stay in Carolina extended.
Reddick would add to the depth currently accumulated on the Panthers’ roster. It would also relieve the pressure on second-round pick Yetur Gross-Matos to deliver immediately. This will do wonders for his long-term aspirations.
The player could also fill in for Tahir Whitehead at the inside linebacker spot of the Panthers new 4-3 base defense should the opportunity present itself. It certainly makes a lot of sense from both parties. But whether Carolina’s decision-makers want to give up a mid-round pick in 2021 to acquire Reddick’s services remains to be seen.
