Panthers 2020 Depth Chart: QB1

The Panthers 2020 depth chart at the quarterback position will be led by Teddy Bridgewater. The organization invested heavily in getting the former first-round pick from the New Orleans Saints in free agency on a three-year, $63 million deal that included a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed.

This represents a huge vote of confidence in a player that went 5-0 in Drew Brees’ absence from the Saints’ starting lineup in 2019. Bridgewater was an efficient game-manager who is still capable of making pressure throws to move the chains.

There is little disputing the fact the ex-Minnesota Vikings deserves a second chance at a starting role give what he has gone through in recent years. Bridgewater almost lost his leg and career with a devastating injury during training camp with Mike Zimmer’s men, which saw him go from a starter to the waiver wire after finally returning to the field.

Last year with the Saints will have done his confidence the world of good. The Panthers have some nice weapons around Bridgewater to enable him to succeed. But much will depend on a new-look offensive line and how they perform with little time together prior to the 2020 season opener.

Bridgewater’s story is an inspirational one. However, now is the time to deliver on the field and make sure Carolina is not looking at taking an elite quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft if things go pear-shaped this term.
