Panthers 2020 Depth Chart: RB1
The Carolina Panthers 2020 depth chart has one player that can be considered the best at his position in the NFL. Christian McCaffrey has been nothing short of a revelation during his time with the franchise and he has a rare ability to make things happen every time he touches the football.
This exceptional standard over the last three years earned McCaffrey a bumper new deal this offseason the former Stanford sensation penned a four-year, $64 million contract with the Panthers that included a $21 million signing bonus and a little over $38 million guaranteed.
This is the richest contract ever given to a running back and it will be up to the player to prove he is worth such a financial commitment. There is nothing to suggest McCaffrey is not capable of this. He quickly turned himself into a formidable dual-threat weapon who has carried the load superbly.
McCaffrey joined some rare company in 2019 by going over 1,000 yards in both rushing and receiving. This achievement was made even more remarkable when one considers just how much the Panthers’ offense struggled down the stretch.
The onus will be on Carolina’s coaching staff to get McCaffrey in the best possible position to succeed in 2020 and beyond. There is the potential for improving overall within the offense. But it will be equally as essential to take some of the load off their prized asset and ensure he is a key component of the franchise for the duration of his extension.
