3. Los Angeles Chargers

A new era dawns for the Los Angeles Chargers thanks to the franchise parting ways with their long-serving quarterback Philip Rivers. They drafted Justin Herbert with the No. 6 pick in 2020. But it remains to be seen whether he can assume the starting role from day one ahead of Tyrod Taylor.

The Chargers offense still has some potent weapons despite the loss of Rivers and running back Melvin Gordon. Austin Ekeler proved more than capable of carrying the load from a starting running back role last season and possesses a dual-threat ability that warrants consideration on every down.

Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL and the Chargers managed to keep hold of pass-catching tight end Hunter Henry during free agency.

They also have former Panthers guard Trai Turner after he was traded in exchange for Pro Bowl left tackle Russell Okung. He is expected to sure up the interior significantly and is a notable improvement on what they had in 2019.

The Chargers defense also has plenty of playmakers such as Joey Bosa, Linval Joseph, and Derwin James. This will be a tough test on the Panthers schedule. But having home-field advantage might be enough to secure a narrow triumph against a side who are going through some changes at the most important position on the field.
