Panthers schedule rumor: Carolina to contest Tom Brady’s home debut
By Dean Jones
The Carolina Panthers schedule will see them travel to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week two for Tom Brady’s home opener with the franchise.
The first road game on the Carolina Panthers schedule in 2020 promises to be a memorable one. It will not only be their first divisional matchup of the season. But it is also their first look at one of the biggest free-agent acquisitions in the NFC South this offseason.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers schedule sees them travel to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week two. This will be the official home opener for Tom Brady after he joined the organization on a two-year deal worth $50 million.
The Bucs are heavily fancied to make a real push for a Super Bowl in 2020. But this team is much more than just Brady and returning tight end Rob Gronkowski. It is absolutely littered with offensive weapons that have the ability to hurt you on any given down.
Their defense also played much better than expected in 2019, which is further cause for encouragement. This will be another exceptionally difficult test for the young core that Carolina possesses following a flurry of offseason activity of their own.
These are two teams who appear to be heading down completely different paths next season. The Bucs have nothing but a divisional title and Vince Lombardi Trophy on their minds. This couldn’t be further from the Panthers’ ambitions during the first year of their rebuild.
Brady is not going to have things all his own way against an impressive looking defensive front in Carolina that has the potential to wreak havoc in their new 4-3 base. The Panthers would like nothing more than to ruin Brady’s home debut and it would be a sensational result if they could pull it off.
