The Carolina Panthers have a good thing going when it comes to their quarterback situation. Make no mistake about it, P.J. Walker will easily make the final roster.

At this point in time, the Carolina Panthers have three quarterbacks signed to the roster. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was brought in via free agency and is expected to be the team’s starter to begin the regular season. Behind him will be an interesting training camp/preseason battle between XFL star P.J. Walker and Will Grier.

Both quarterbacks bring a lot to the table as Grier is a serviceable backup but make no mistake about it, Walker will be a better option down the road. As both quarterbacks do their best to make their case to decision-makers all summer long, if Walker showcases his unique skill set as he did in the XFL, he will be a better option under center in case his number is called this upcoming season.

Grier, a third-round draft pick back in the 2019 NFL Draft, still has a lot left to show if he’s going to make it in the NFL. Of course, he’s been in the shadow of Cam Newton for the last year, and the time he was able to play, didn’t do much to show he’s ready for the pro scene. In 2019, Grier only started in two games and was mostly known for his four interceptions and zero touchdowns.

To be fair, to judge a quarterback that is drafted takes at least three years to see if they can put everything together. The jury is still out on Grier but the Panthers signed Walker since he was breaking out in his own right in the XFL.

Not only did Walker excel as a starter, but he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns at 15 before it was shut down. Yes, the XFL was a brand new league with a lot of hope and not a ton of extraordinary talent but Walker stood out from the pack. He looks as ready as any quarterback that can step right in and take care of business in the NFL.

It’s hard to tell if the Panthers plan to go into the regular season with up to three quarterbacks when they’ll more than likely only keep two on the final roster. If it comes down to just having Bridgewater and a single backup quarterback, Walker will be the better of the two when compared to Grier.

It might be hard to part ways with a third-round draft pick which could lead the Panthers to simply keep all three quarterbacks as insurance to injury or a steep decline in play. There is no guarantee that Bridgewater can stay healthy and effective all season long so it might make more sense to keep all three just in case.

Regardless, Walker will undoubtedly make the Panthers’ final roster thanks to all his solid attributes. He made many fun highlights in the XFL showcasing his arm strength, accuracy, and the ability to make big plays with ease and precision. If he can continue this momentum into his first NFL team, the sky is the limit for what he can do over the next few years.
