Panthers schedule: The dubious distinction awaiting Carolina in 2020
By Dean Jones
As if the Carolina Panthers schedule wasn’t tough enough, they are set for another unwanted record in the form of six NFL MVP winners.
There is no disputing the challenges that lie ahead on the Carolina Panthers schedule. The team is going to be up against it from the outset and it will be a massive surprise if they were in anything like postseason contention down the stretch.
According to ELIAS, the Panthers are also going to be in some historic territory in 2020. They will come up against quarterbacks who have won six MVPs between them, which is tied most in league history for one campaign.
This is also a dubious distinction that falls on their NFC South rival New Orleans Saints next season. It might be more significant for them rather than the Panthers as Sean Payton’s side harbor Super Bowl ambitious during Drew Brees’ final year under center.
Head coach Matt Rhule might use this statistic as a source of inspiration during the season as his young roster looks to prove themselves in elite company. There are sure to be some growing pains. But how they adjust to difficulty and bounce back from defeats is going to tall the coaching staff plenty about what sort of characters they have within the organization.
Having so many NFL MVPs on the Panthers schedule could have its benefits. There is no telling just what sort of valuable experience the rookies from Carolina’s all-defense draft could get from playing against some legendary figures within the game during the early stages of their development.
It is a challenge that undoubtedly presents problems. But they should do nothing but embrace the prospect.
