It promises to be a critical year for new Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, but what sort of numbers can we expect in 2020?

All eyes will be on new Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in 2020 as he looks to finally return as a productive long-term starter in the NFL. The big-money acquisition from the New Orleans Saints has come back from the brink and will now get a prolonged opportunity to show the league what he is capable of.

There is little doubt that Bridgewater is deserving of such a chance, He came back from a devastating leg injury that threatened his career to earn a three-year, $63 million with the Carolina Panthers that included a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed.

This is going to come with its own expectations. But the Carolina Panthers have put some decent pieces around Bridgewater to ensure he has a chance of keeping the team competitive despite their predicted struggles.

Maurice Moton of The Bleacher Report delved deeper into Bridgewater’s prospects in 2020 for a recent feature that predicted every projected starting quarterback’s number next season.

He expects the former first-round pick to go 313-483 throwing the ball. This would result in 3,330 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Bridgewater is also predicted to take 39 carries for 175 yards and two scores.

Speaking on the Carolina Panthers new signal-caller, Moton had this to say.

"“Teddy Bridgewater protects the football and throws an accurate ball (65.2 percent completion rate). That combination will allow him to lead the Carolina Panthers to a few surprise victories. However, don’t expect Bridgewater to light up the box score every week. In his first two years as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings, he didn’t throw for more than 14 touchdowns or reach 3,300 yards in a single season. “Don’t expect big numbers within the Panthers offense, which may feature Christian McCaffrey and two average wide receivers in DJ Moore and Robby Anderson. This isn’t a knock against Bridgewater. He could have a solid 2020 campaign in Carolina. On the flip side, the 27-year-old isn’t going to pile up chunk plays with a conservative arm. The Pro Bowl signal-caller averages just 173.9 passing yards per game for his career.”"

If Bridgewater could reach this sort of respectable level, it would be seen as an achievement. This is a period of transition for the Panthers with their new-look roster and if their man under center can show promise then it stands them in good stead for 2021 and possibly beyond.
