Can Bridgewater secure success with the Panthers?

Much will depend on how Teddy Bridgewater clicks with his new Carolina Panthers teammates in terms of his fortunes in 2020. He is working with different faces who will have little time to get on the same page with a shortened offseason.

While Bridgewater has been reportedly working hard at home to ready himself for the challenges that lie ahead. But this is nothing compared to the familiarity a player gets in a new environment through face-to-face contact with teammates and coaching staff.

There is every chance Bridgewater can hit the ground running and make a real go of this opportunity. However, he is set to be very busy given the youthful defense in Carolina coming up against some of the more ruthless offenses in the NFL during a tough-looking schedule.

Managing a game might have been good enough with the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings. But that is not going to do the job in Carolina. Bridgewater is going to have to make things happen off his own back and this is something the player has done with mixed success in recent years.

He will be leaning on Panthers’ All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey heavily during his first season with the franchise. But whether he will get enough time to go through his progressions playing behind a suspect offensive line is another matter entirely.

It is going to be interesting watching how Bridgewater gets on with the Panthers in 2020. Even though he has a strong commitment from the franchise. If he does not perform well and Carolina has a high-end draft pick in 2021. They might have the opportunity to cut their losses after one season and go after a franchise-changing prospect such as Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.
