Undrafted free agent Frederick Mauigoa will be looking to earn a roster spot in 2020 after not being taken by the Carolina Panthers draft team.

The Carolina Panthers draft focused heavily on the defensive side of the ball. But the franchise did manage to bring in some undrafted free agents who could have a shot of making the roster in 2020.

One such player is former Washington State center Frederick Mauigoa, who did not have his name called by the Panthers draft team initially. However, the organization likes what they see from an offensive lineman who will look to make an impression during training camp.

Mauigoa has two seasons of solid college production under his belt before taking his tilt at the pro ranks. He has been a solid interior blocker during this time and has the frame to get better with more development.

There is a lingering doubt as to whether the player is strong enough to compete against the formidable defensive lineman throughout the NFL. Mauigoa will need to spend some considerable time in the weight room if he wants to make it to the next level. And he also needs to work on improving his explosiveness immediately following the snap.

If Mauigoa can do this, then the Panthers could potentially have a good player on their hands. There will not be any pressure on Mauigoa to make an instant impression with the franchise. But if he shows the right sort of attitude and willingness to progress his game during camp then it could see the player secure an unlikely roster position.

The Panthers draft was right to fill their gaping holes on defense. And the organization is going to be better for it long term. However, their offensive line also had a significant makeover and will need some young blood in the rotation to give them the best possible chance of success going forward.
