Christian McCaffrey: Comparisons with 3 all-time greats
By Dean Jones
Marshall Faulk
The legendary Marshall Faulk is arguably the best pass-catching running back of all time. He enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success throughout his career that eventually ended with a deserved Hall of Fame selection and a Super Bowl ring.
Faulk was named first-team All-Pro three times, made seven Pro Bowls, and was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2000. He was a devastating presence out of the backfield and someone that warranted considerable attention whenever he was on the field.
Christian McCaffrey has had a similar influence on the Carolina Panthers. But the one thing that currently sets them apart is that Faulk played on contending teams.
This is something McCaffrey might not experience until further along in his career. So the least he can do now is continue to strive for the sort of number that could possibly surpass Faulk when it’s all said and done.
That will be easier said than done. The former St. Louis Ram attained 12,279 rushing yards, 100 rushing touchdowns, 776 receptions, 6,875 receiving yards, and 36 receiving touchdowns.
There is a real chance McCaffrey can achieve similar if not better stats to Faulk if his upward curve continues. While the Hall of Famer was more adept between the tackles, both are superb short route runners who provide a huge element of security for whatever player is under centre.
