Panthers schedule: Defense No. 2 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There have been plenty of headlines emanating from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from an offensive standpoint this offseason. But their defense looks equally as good on paper thanks to a sterling showing in 2019.

The Bucs’ defensive unit might have gone under the radar somewhat last season thanks in no small part to the erratic play from signal-caller Jameis Winston, which did them no favors whatsoever during the campaign. Despite their ineptitude regarding turnovers, this is a loaded roster that fits in well with the win-now mold the team has adapted since the free-agent signing of Tom Brady.

Ndamukong Suh, William Gholston, and the improving Vita Vea form an imposing defensive front that will be tough to shift. They will be assisted by some outstanding pass-rushers in Shaquil Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul on the edge.

Lavonte David holds down the second level extremely well from the middle linebacker spot. Their secondary has also been bolstered by the arrival of second-round selection Antoine Winfield Jr., who will be looking to make the same sort of impact as his father within a professional environment.

All this points to a stiff test for the Carolina Panthers offense when they face the Bucs’ in their two divisional games. Much will depend on how their offensive line holds against what looks to be an imposing front seven on paper.
