2. Carolina Panthers offensive line play

Another area where the Carolina Panthers need to improve is their offensive line. While the group did an adequate job of making lanes for Christian McCaffrey, their pass protection was abysmal at times and gave Kyle Allen and others little time to go through their progressions.

Their task has been made more difficult in 2020 with the departure of perennial Pro Bowler Trai Turner. The outstanding guard was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for veteran left tackle Russell Okung, who is heading into the final year of his deal.

This was a bizarre move from the organization, to say the least. Turner has been replaced on the interior by free-agent duo John Miller and Michael Schofield, who both have starting experience with mixed success. There is also the chance Dennis Daley moves into the guard spot after his weaknesses were exposed often during his rookie campaign.

Whether this patchwork line can come together and improve the team’s fortunes remains to be seen. They are going to get little time together compared with normal offseasons, and they will need to pick things up quickly in order to show progress.

The standard of their play is also going to have huge ramifications on Teddy Bridgewater, who needs time in the pocket due to his relative lack of mobility.
