P.J. Walker will win the No. 2 quarterback job with the Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have placed a lot of faith in free-agent signing Teddy Bridgewater to become their long-term quarterback. However, his devastating leg injury that threatened his career should men the organization put a contingency plan in place if the former New Orleans Saint is forced to miss some time.

It appeared for a short time as if Will Grier was slotted in to be the No. 2 option. But the intriguing arrival of P.J Walker has unquestionably thrown a spanner in the works.

Walker’s time in the XFL was highly beneficial for the player and saw him emerge as an MVP candidate before the league was shut down. This was enough for the Panthers to give him a two-year, $1.65 million deal in the hope he can make the most of another chance in the NFL.

How things develop between the two signal-caller during training camp and preseason games will ultimately decide their fortunes. Grier struggled mightily behind an abysmal offensive line during his rookie season. And this might be enough to Walker the edge in the fight for the primary backup role.

There is plenty to like about Walker’s game. And it is clear he has learned a considerable amount from his time away from the pros. The Panthers have given him a shot and it would be a huge shock if he did not take full advantage.
