Brandon Scherff (Week 16 on Carolina Panthers schedule)

There is little doubting the credentials that right guard Brandon Scherff brings to the table. The former fifth overall pick has more than lived up to expectations so far during his time with the Washington Redskins.

This will be an acid test to possibly end the season for Derrick Brown. The Carolina Panthers might not have too much to play for heading into week 17, so there is the potential that the rookie and other prominent members of the roster sit out the final game, depending on the circumstances.

Scherff received a tremendous grade of 75.0 from Pro Football Focus after allowing just one sack in 2019. The lineman has a rare combination of size, speed, and power that makes him a difficult proposition for even the most talented defensive tackles across the league.

If the Panthers wanted an indication of just how far Brown has come during his rookie campaign, then this will be a great benchmark. Scherff is one of the best right guards around and it would be a huge shock if he did not raise his game to another level next term.

This is a game that might not mean much. But there will be plenty of bragging rights up for grabs. The Panthers will not want their former head coach Ron Rivera to get one over on them over the festive period.
