Carolina Panthers: How far off could a potential dynasty be?
By Alex Duran
How far off is a possible dynasty for the Carolina Panthers?
The level of apathy for the Carolina Panthers has reached an all-time high. Sitting in a division that has Drew Brees and Tom Brady will do that to you, but that’s only part of it.
The network cut the Carolina Panthers from the spotlight after they released Cam Newton. There were plenty of other losses to be upset about. These included coaches, front office personnel, and even media reporters.
The team must have known they’d also alienate fans along the way. So there must have been a good reason for all of it.
A recent article by Adam Schein lists the likeliest candidates for the NFL’s next dynasty. The writer touts the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens as the two likeliest due to their accumulation of talent, their venerated coaching staff, and their young and talented quarterbacks.
Schein also notes salary caps being an object of balance in the league. And this is something that has restricted the Panthers during the 2020 offseason.
What the writer probably doesn’t know is that this is the last year the Panthers’ salary cap will be a liability for them. And they hired an experienced financial manager to keep it that way.
However, there’s a lot more for the Panthers to look forward to.
The Carolina Panthers have enough upside for a long period of sustainable success
The Carolina Panthers now possess a coaching staff with differing degrees of familiarity and multiple accolades to take them into a new era. The franchise also has a young roster with veterans entered at each position. And seven seasons to develop a winning and cohesive culture. It seems they have everything set up to make it all work, but people are still not convinced.
Matt Rhule acknowledges that some of the most successful companies in the world thrive because they were born during times of recession. The Panthers were in a predicament before this unprecedented time across the country took its toll. Now they’re set up to work overtime to undo their plight when the season starts.
If Rhule can manage more wins than the Panthers had last year, he’ll always have that personal victory to refer to. This would result in the head coach leading a team with a bunch of defensive rookies and a new coaching staff to more victories than expected.
When one considers Rhule has been working with only an abridged offseason program, this would be quite an achievement. Everyone in the Panthers’ organization will want to run through a wall for him. And this would only bode well for the future.
It’s a great fundamental for a team that’s been severely underwhelming for the last two seasons to rebuild. Additionally, it’ll be great for all of the rookies since they’ll always have this unique experience to refer to throughout their careers.
They’ll want to muster wins for Rhule, they’ll want to inspire new Panthers to fight for their head coach, and they’ll all want to fight for his extension when the time comes. That’s a solid decade of having and maintaining a winning culture.
The Panthers are just as capable of creating their own dynasty as any of the current playoff contenders. Now it’s just a matter of waiting.
