Carolina Panthers Round 7 pick (No. 237): Bisi Johnson – WR

The Carolina Panthers boast tremendous depth at the wide receiver spot heading into 2020. But they might have saved themselves some money by taking Bisi Johnson with their seventh-round selection in 2019.

Johnson was given some significant responsibility by the Minnesota Vikings during his rookie season. He saw plenty of targets from the slot and was even targeted by quarterback Kirk Cousins on critical third-down situations.

The wideout grabbed 31 receptions from just 41 targets on his way to 294 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2019. There is a chance he can become more involved in his sophomore season after the Vikings traded Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills. But he will need to show more than first-rounder Justin Jefferson during training camp.

Carolina’s decision-makers passed on Johnson in favor of another receiver in Terry Godwin. Unfortunately for the player and the franchise, he did not perform well enough to be given a real shot and was eventually moved on.

Godwin now finds himself on the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he will try and secure a place on their 53-man roster. Looking back on the 2019 NFL Draft. The Panthers will be kicking themselves they didn’t take Johnson, especially with No. 3 wideout Curtis Samuel heading into the final year of his rookie deal.
