Could Carolina Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore be the most underrated wideout in the NFL?

The Carolina Panthers could have a real star on their hands in D.J. Moore. The player is coming off his first 1,000-yard season in 2019. And more will be expected this time around with a more consistent presence throwing him the ball.

Having a true No. 1 wideout is something that Carolina Panthers have not had for a prolonged period of time since Steve Smith. There is definite potential Moore can finally fill the void left by the potential Pro Football Hall of Famer if he continues to trend on an upward curve.

Despite Moore receiving some notoriety last season. The player could still be deemed as something of an underrated individual, according to Hunter Noll of Clutch Points.

The writer named his top-five underrated wide receiver in the NFL heading into 2020. And Moore ended up at No. 2 in the rankings behind only DeVante Parker of the Miami Dolphins.

Outlining why Moore was so high on his list, Noll has this to say.

"“For the most part, Moore is severely underrated because of his team, the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are not dreadful or anything. But they have Christian McCaffrey. The running back is an absolute stud and quite possibly the most dangerous weapon in the NFL. What that does though is create a narrative. A narrative that McCaffrey is the only weapon in Carolina and the only reason the offense really does anything.“Yes, McCaffrey is a monster and their MVP. He’s not the only reason for a win though. Moore recorded 87 receptions for 1,175 yards and four touchdowns last season. Would you really have thought he did that based on the way the media hypes up the Panthers as having absolutely zero help for McCaffrey? I rest my case.”"

Why D.J Moore being so underrated is a good thing for the Carolina Panthers

Having someone like D.J. Moore on the outside is going to be of significant use to the Carolina Panthers going forward. Their new signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater will look to the former first-round pick to become his No. 1 option. And the presence of free-agent signing Robby Anderson on the other side of the field is also set to be a massive boost to his overall fortunes.

Moore going under the radar heading into 2020 is a good thing for the Panthers. Although NFL teams will be wary of his game-breaking ability. Their focus will still be on McCaffrey whenever he is on the field.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady will be all too aware of this. And he is renowned for wanting to get the ball downfield quickly. This all bodes well for Moore’s chances of topping the 1,000-yard mark once again. And he will be given the chance to prove he is among the NFL’s best.

Much will depend on how the Panthers’ new-look offensive line holds up. But if they can give Bridgewater enough time to go through his progressions, then the Panthers are going to see a lot more from both the quarterback and the passing game.

Moore will be at the forefront of any potential turnaround in fortunes. And the player being underrated going into the new campaign might not last too much longer.
