3 free-agents the Panthers could sign with Luke Kuechly savings

Carolina Panthers free-agent target: Alec Ogletree – LB
What better way for the Carolina Panthers to spend some of their free money from Luke Kuechly’s retirement that bringing another linebacker to help fill the void. Alec Ogletree might have underachieved after getting serious money from the New York Giants. But that does not detract from what an intriguing short-term option he could be for the franchise.
Ogletree was on the field for 76 percent of the Giants’ defensive snaps in 2019. He performed adequately on his way to 48 solo tackles, one sack, one interception, and six pass deflections.
The former first-round pick is much better in coverage than current Panthers’ starting option Tahir Whitehead. But he doesn’t possess the same sort of tackling skills. This could make them a good tandem that switches depending on the situation on the field.
With little depth behind Whitehead currently, this could be an enticing option for the Panthers. Ogletree will not be looking for any major money given what he received from the Giants. And his relative lack of interest during free agency should also see the player jump at the opportunity to earn a place on the roster.
This could also be a win-win for both parties. If Ogletree performs well, it could put him in line for a longer-term commitment in Carolina or elsewhere. For the Panthers, any significant level of production would see their lowly investment pay off in no uncertain terms.
