3 best scheme-fits for former Panthers QB Cam Newton

Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams were arguably the biggest disappointment in the NFL last season. They failed to even make the playoff following their Super Bowl appearance. And this makes the upcoming a critical one for head coach Sean McVay.
Former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff also comes into the season under the spotlight. He signed a four-year, $134 million extension last September with $110 million guaranteed. This was not only the largest contract given to a quarterback, but it also outlined supreme confidence that he can lead the organization to great things in the future.
One could argue that the standard of his play did not warrant such a financial commitment from the Rams. And if Goff either gets injured or fails to produce, the team has little behind him that come could into the fold and immediately contribute.
Providing the price is right, then Newton would be a good option for the Rams. The former Carolina Panthers gunslinger is a dual-threat presence that McVay could use in a multitude of different ways. And given the coach’s ability to get creative on offense, it is a mouth-watering proposition with the receiving weapons at their disposal in 2020.
The Rams are right up against it from a salary cap perspective, which makes any potential move for Newton unlikely. However, in terms of scheme fit, the organization is one of the best options available for a player who is looking for another shot at the big time.
