Carolina Panthers free-agent target: Raekwon McMillan (Miami Dolphins)

Despite playing on a terrible defense with the Miami Dolphins in 2019, Raekwon McMillan still managed to emerge from the campaign with a tremendous amount of credit. He is going to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021. And the inside linebacker is someone who should be on the shortlist for the Carolina Panthers.

McMillan has steadily improved with every passing year in the NFL. Things were not easy for the player or the Dolphins last season. But he still managed to come away with 72 combined tackles, 35 solo tackles, and one pass deflection.

The former second-round selection from Ohio State burst onto the scene in 2018 with the organization. McMillan was a revelation during his first full season as a professional on his way to 105 combined tackles, 69 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, and one pass deflection.

He has all the necessary athleticism that the Panthers have sought often during free agency and the NFL Draft. So from that perspective, the player looks like a good fit.

Much will depend on how McMillan responds for a defense that could be much-improved in 2020. And if he can get back to the sort of level that made him a hot commodity coming out of college. Then it could come with a bumper new deal either in Miami or elsewhere.
