Carolina Panthers trade target: Dan Arnold – (TE)

The tight end position is an area of mild concern for the Carolina Panthers heading into next season. They appear to be putting all their faith in Ian Thomas making a giant leap forward in the absence of Greg Olsen, who ended a prolific spell with the franchise after penning a free-agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

Although there is real hope that Thomas can thrive with the extra responsibility. There does appear to be little depth behind him. And if he fails to deliver then it will be a real problem for the Panthers.

An intriguing potential option from the Arizona Cardinals that could provide some good cover at tight end is Dan Arnold. The former New Orleans Saint is a solid complementary piece and one that could even develop into a starter if presented with a chance.

Arnold made the most of his limited time on the field for the Cardinals in 2019. According to Pro Football Focus, he caught eight of 13 targets for 127 yards and two touchdowns. This saw the player achieve an impressive grading of 71.6.

With Charles Clay no longer part of the Cardinals’ roster, Arnold will get the chance to compete with Maxx Williams for the starting role in Arizona. Although the latter is slightly favoured to become the No. 1 option at the present time.

The Panthers might be prudent to take advantage of this situation and make the Cardinals an offer for Arnold, who has a high ceiling and is entering his fourth year in the league. A mid-round pick would probably be enough to acquire a player that will be a restricted free agent in 2021.
