Carolina Panthers: No. 2 – Tre Boston (S)

The Carolina Panthers did sign Tre Boston to a three-year, $18 million extension this offseason. But he is now surrounded by talented young players that could end up being his long-term replacement.

Boston enjoyed a tremendous 2019 campaign and was thoroughly deserving of his contract. However, the Panthers drafted Jeremy Chinn and Kenny Robinson, who they have immensely high hopes for.

If both Panthers’ draft picks prove their worth in 2020, then Boston could become a potential trade candidate despite his high production. The former fourth-round pick was one of the more clinical players in the NFL in pressure situations in 2019 on his way to an impressive grading of 76.8 from Pro Football Focus.

That being said, Boston would be a hot commodity on the trade market with another good year in 2021. And a big offer might be enough for Carolina to pull the trigger.

This would give them another draft pick or two. And the franchise has a pair of exciting young college prospects who can step in and fill the void.

Should the Panthers get another good season out of Boston, it would propel him to arguably the most influential player on defense. The player made the most out of another opportunity with the organization last season. So the onus will be on him to make sure this was just just a flash in the pan in pursuit of a multi-million-dollar commitment.
