Carolina Panthers cuts: Zach Kerr (DE)

One possible candidate for release if he does not make a serious impact during training camp is Zach Kerr. The defensive end arrived with the Carolina Panthers during free agency on a two-year, $3 million deal. And it would cost the organization $500,000 in dead cap money if he is moved on.

Kerr has been a journeyman during his time in the NFL after spending his first three years with the Indianapolis Colts. Short spells at the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals followed. And it remains to be seen whether the player can make the most out of his latest opportunity.

There is a lot to like about Kerr’s ability when he is firing on all cylinders. He has recorded 7.5 sacks, 76 solo tackles, one forced fumble, and five pass deflections throughout his career. But the Panthers’ pass-rushing group looks stacked in 2020 and could end up with the player on the outside looking in.

This could potentially be a real area of strength for the Panthers. And defensive coordinator Phil Snow has some athletic specimens that can be utilized in a number of different ways.

Kerr has a lot of work to do in order to make the 53-man roster. It is going to be a big challenge for the player. But one that he is sure to relish in the coming weeks.
