Can sixth-round pick Bravvion Roy produce the goods for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 and beyond?

The Carolina Panthers might have found a real diamond in the rough with Bravvion Roy. New head coach Matt Rhule knows plenty about the player and took him with their sixth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

There is not much pressure on Roy to come in and contribute right away. The Carolina Panthers have veteran Kawann Short returning to the fold next season. And they also allocated their No. 7 overall pick on former Auburn standout Derrick Brown.

This will leave Roy looking for a spot on the rotation. And he is one the could benefit most from the lack of face-to-face time together due to the current climate.

Rhule knows all about what Roy brings to the table. The pair were together at Baylor and the coach thought it beneficial to take him to the Panthers at the next level.

It also gives Roy a sense of familiarity as he embarks on the next stage of his development. Going from college to the pros is a substantial transition. And this year’s recruits have not been aided by social distancing measures relating to the current climate.

Each rookie is going to go through a baptism of fire early on. Roy knows how his head coach operates and, more importantly, what is expected on and off the field. This is something that can work massively in his favor.

Roy will also get the chance to learn behind Short, who has been a prolific performer throughout his career. Both the player and Brown should find this enormously beneficial to their overall progress initially. This will, in turn, boost their long-term aspirations.

Can Bravvion Roy make an impact during his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers?

Although he does need to brush up some elements of his game. There is a lot to like about Roy’s potential to make a success of his NFL career.

He is a formidable presence against the run, which is something the Panthers will probably improve on considerably in 2020. Roy does need to work on his strength and pass-rushing. But he is a big body to move off the block and should fit in well with what Carolina is trying to do going forward.

While there is going to be tremendous pressure on the likes of Brown, Yetur Gross-Matos, Jeremy Chinn, and Troy Pride J. The same doesn’t apply to Roy. He will be given some freedom to develop at his own pace. And there could be some chance to provide relief when Short inevitably needs some rest during the season.

Rhule also knows he can count on Roy to deliver in the big moments. The defensive tackle recorded 6.5 sacks, 126 total tackles, 66 solo tackles, and one forced fumble during his time in college. And he has some steady improvement with every passing year.

There is still the possibility that Roy can boost his physicality in the next couple of years, which would also boost his overall fortunes. However, it is his familiarity with Rhule that gives him a deciding edge heading into a shortened training camp. And this is something the player must take advantage of.
