Panthers No. 90: 3 reasons Julius Peppers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer
By Dean Jones
2. Longevity
Julius Peppers was not only a player that provided elite production throughout his career. But his ability to stay healthy at such a violent position was remarkable.
According to Pro Football Reference, Peppers missed only a handful of games before injuries finally caught up with him over his final three seasons in the NFL.
He was subject to constant hits playing defensive end or outside linebacker throughout his time on the field. And for him to dig deep despite knocks is a testament to Peppers’ grit, determination, and overall desire to help his team.
The fact he played so long despite not having much need to financially was another massive contributing factor to his overall longevity. Peppers had an unrivaled passion for the game and played every snap with an infectious enthusiasm that made him a fan favorite wherever he went.
This not only resulted in a prolific career spanning almost two decades. But it had the ability to inspire others around him to be better, which was equally as important.
Although his production waned slightly as the years went on. Father time waits for no man and this is something that was expected.
That being said, Peppers’ influence remained steadfast from start to finish. And this is another factor that needs to be considered when his time comes as a possible first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame candidate.
