Carolina Panthers: 3 current players that fans love to hate
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers player No. 3: Dennis Daley (OL)
Things could not have been much tougher form Dennis Daley during his rookie season. The sixth-round pick in 2019 was thrown to the wolves during the second half of the campaign. And it’s fair to say he went through some considerable struggles.
He gave up seven sacks from 686 snaps last season according to Pro Football Focus. This was tied-10th in the NFL and also saw Daley responsible for four penalties.
There were some encouraging signs. But given this was his first year as a professional, Daley was seen more of a scapegoat than most. He did show promise against a conveyor belt of formidable pass-rushers. And PFF gave him a respectable grade of 58.6 for the season.
Whether Daley can bounce back in 2020 remains to be seen. The Panthers look set at the tackle positions with Russell Okung and Taylor Moton. But the decision-makers do have the option of moving the player into one of the guard spots.
This would take some of the pressure off Daley on the edge. And he boasts the right sort of size and height to make a real go of things on the interior.
Some sections of the fanbase might have already given up on Daley’s long-term prospects. And any early error will be met with murmurings of discontent both in the crowd or on social media. What comes next will be up to him and it remains to be seen whether he can turn things around.
