The Carolina Panthers have made some superb draft picks. But they have also missed out on some all-time greats.

The Carolina Panthers have had great success in their history of drafting college recruits. The franchise has selected no fewer than 12 first-team All-Pro players since 2000, the most in the NFL.

Even with all that success, the Carolina Panthers have missed out on some of the greatest players to ever take the field. It’s tough to make the perfect draft pick. But it’s fun to wonder what if the decision-makers had gone in a different direction when they were on the clock.

Making a draft selection isn’t always about taking the best player available. Most of the time teams pick their chosen college prospects for positional needs. This can cause some amazing individuals to fall into the lap of a team that is in the position to take the best available given the overall strength of their roster.

The Panthers have drafted for positional need more than taking the best player available more often than not. It’s worked out great for them for the most part. But they have made some questionable picks that do not look too promising in hindsight.

Here’s a look at some of the questionable picks the Panthers have made, and who they missed out on to make matters worse.
