Carolina Panthers: X-factor No. 3: Pharoh Cooper (WR)
The Carolina Panthers brought in a number of different wide receivers during free agency. One player in particular that really catches the eye is Pharoh Cooper.
The multi-purpose playmaker signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract that included a $300,000 signing bonus and $300,000 guaranteed following his move from the Arizona Cardinals. This was another intriguing addition to the offense and one that could help Carolina in a number of different ways.
Cooper is coming off the best season of his career after grabbing 25 receptions from just 33 targets on his way to 243 yards and a touchdown. This also included a 9.8 yards-per-catch average to further enhance what was a campaign of real progression.
The next stage for Cooper will be to earn valuable minutes on the field with the Panthers. The top-three wideouts look set. But the competition surrounding the No. 4 spot is set to be fierce and will also involve Seth Roberts and Keith Kirkwood.
If he can beat out other hopefuls to earn a role, then Cooper’s versatility is something that can be of real use for the Panthers. There is also his exceptional kick-returning to consider. And this is another element of his game that could end up giving the offense some good field position that is sure to stand them in good stead in 2020.
