Will Cam Newton have to wait for an injury to find a new team?

Will former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton have to wait until injury strikes before landing a new team for 2020?
Cam Newton is still looking for a new home after he was released by the Carolina Panthers this offseason. The iconic quarterback has upped the ante regarding social media posts of him working out in readiness for an NFL return. But a team has yet to jump the gun when it comes to acquiring the player.
The 2015 NFL MVP was not helped by the timing of his departure from the Carolina Panthers. There is still plenty of bitterness regarding the way things are handled. And the signal-caller might need to bide his time in order to find the right fit.
This might come due before or during the 2020 season. Newton is relatively short of starting opportunities elsewhere. So this might be his best route for his long-term aspirations.
Michelle Burton of The Bleacher Report also offered a similar opinion during a recent prediction piece. The writer listed a number of teams as possible destinations for Newton. But expects him to be signed following an injury during training camp.
"“The NFL quarterback carousel hardly spins at all now, as most of the league has options for Week 1 starters and developmental prospects alike. It’s hard to believe he won’t be suiting up for a team in 2020 (or when the next season is played), but it’s also hard to see a good opening for him anywhere in the league. It’s not clear at this point that Newton is willing to go into a situation when he would certainly be the backup. If he gets the call, Newton certainly looks ready to go. He recently kept his skills sharp in a workout with Odell Beckham Jr.”"
Why waiting might be a good thing for former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton
If Cam Newton has to wait that little bit longer so find a new team, so what? The player isn’t exactly turning would-be suitors away at the present time. So this extra time will improve his conditioning and get him in the right sort of mindset before inevitably getting another opportunity.
The NFL is full of hard-luck stories of players getting injured during training camp. One only has to look at Newton’s replacement with the Carolina Panthers to see how quickly things can turn sour.
Teddy Bridgewater was primed to lead the Minnesota Vikings on a possible Super Bowl push before a freak leg injury during camp almost ended his career. The former first-round pick went from one of the NFL’s most promising players at the position to the waiver wire. And he has worked incredibly hard to get another starting opportunity.
If a quarterback goes down during preseason or camp, then Newton’s name will immediately come up if he is not signed. What is important for the player is that the fit is right. And which team he chooses will go a long way to determining whether his second chance is going to be profitable away from Carolina.
It’s easy to forget how well Newton was playing for the Panthers in 2018 before shoulder and foot injuries blighted his final 18 months with the organization. If he can return to this sort of form, then there is no doubt the dual-threat presence is going to make another team very happy.
