Panthers No. 88: 3 reasons why Carolina will miss Greg Olsen
By Dean Jones
2. Leadership
Another thing that the Carolina Panthers will miss about Greg Olsen is his supreme leadership skills. He was a trusted member of the organization and provide younger members of the roster with a role model that they could turn to for advice and guidance on virtually any hurdle they were trying to overcome.
Olsen had a calming demeanor for the most part. But that should not detract from what a vocal influence he became during his time with the franchise. He would often be seen on the sidelines offering words of encouragement. And was quick to try and motivate those who were either not pulling their weight or suffering confidence issues.
He was one of the true locker room leaders within the Panthers and has been for some time. Even when Olsen missed time through injury, he still managed to play a leading role that was equally as important as his production on the field.
The tight end is one of many that will be missed in this perspective in 2020 and beyond. The Panthers gutted their roster of prominent leadership this offseason. And they were dealt a further blow when linebacker Luke Kuechly announced his retirement after a sensational eight-year career.
This sort of thing is commonplace in the NFL. And how other potential leaders step up is going to go a long way to determining the Panthers’ fortunes in the coming years.
