Carolina Panthers: 4 players who could win awards in 2020

Carolina Panthers: DROY Award candidate – Derrick Brown (DT)
The Carolina Panthers placed a lot of faith in defensive tackle Derrick Brown when they selected him No. 7 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He is an imposing presence on the interior and has a Pro Bowl ceiling coming into the league.
Carolina’s run defense was abysmal last season. And adding Brown seemed to be a no-brainer despite do-it-all linebacker Isaiah Simmons dropping out of the top five. He has the potential to be the Panthers’ defensive lynchpin for the next decade and is expected to make a significant contribution right away.
Brown was given a fully-guaranteed deal worth $23.65 million shortly after his name was called. And if he can live up to his billing from the outset, then it could put him in contention for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Although this type of accolade normally goes to a flashier type of individual, there is nothing to suggest that Brown is not a strong candidate for the award. One might have to look past the stats to see just would sort of positive impact Brown has on the Panthers. This is due to the fact he commands so many double teams thanks to his supreme power and ability to hold his ground.
Working alongside veteran Kawann Short is another massive boost for the player on what looks a very promising front seven for new defensive coordinator Phil Snow to work with. Everything is in place for Brown to succeed. And it will be up to the incoming recruit to deliver on his exceptional promise.
