Panthers No. 87: 3 reasons why Muhsin Muhammad was elite
By Dean Jones
3. Route running
If there was one thing that those who were fortunate enough to see Muhsin Muhammad play took from seeing him on the field. Then his truly elite route running would be high on the list.
He was an accomplished presence on the outside that had no trouble going deep or getting some valuable yards on intermediate routes. This was something that the Panthers utilized to the fullest and ensured Muhammad’s place in the short history of the organization.

The way Muhammad approached every down was a testament not only to his ability. But it was also proof positive that he put the team’s needs before his own. Whether he was the primary target or a decoy. He would always make sure his part of the play was executed with maximum commitment.
Muhammad came into the NFL followed a standout career with Michigan State. And he wasted no time in making his transition to the next level a smooth one. His route running was arguably the main reason why he was able to make a big impression right away. But it was making the most out of his early opportunities that really caught the eye.
Plenty of wide receivers have come through Carolina’s doors since Muhammad finally decided to hang up his cleats. But few will ever match his consistency or influence.
