Carolina Panthers trade target: Greedy Williams (CB)

Greedy Williams might have underperformed during his first year on the field for the Cleveland Browns in 2019. But the cornerback does possess an intriguing skill set that would be of real use to the Carolina Panthers.

The former second-round pick out of LSU gave up 31 receptions from 52 targets last season and failed to grab a single interception. Cleveland’s defense struggled overall across all areas. So there is potential Williams bounces back.

Cornerback is an area of the field that the Panthers have their own questions to answer. James Bradberry, Ross Cockrell, and Javien Elliott are no longer with the franchise. And it remains to be seen whether the revamped group can perform well with their lack of time together before the campaign gets underway.

Williams would instantly become a valuable member of the defense if Carolina opted to make a move. There is also little financial outlay in the short-term for a player entering his third year, which is another welcome proposition given the Panthers’ lack of salary cap space.

The price for Williams would still be quite high despite his lack of consistency last season. He is projected to start in 2020 and it remains to be seen whether the player can cope with this sort of responsibility.

The same applies to Panthers’ No. 1 option Donte Jackson, who will now be tasked with covering the opposition’s primary target consistently.
