Carolina Panthers Player No. 2: Omar Bayless (WR)

One of the more notable undrafted free-agent signings made by the Carolina Panthers was Omar Bayless. The prolific wide receiver was one of college football’s most impressive performers in 2019. And it was a real surprise not to hear his name called over the seven rounds.

The Panthers wasted no time in picking up Bayless, who is a dark horse to make the 53-man roster thanks to his impressive skill set. However, the lack of time to show what he is capable of is going to harm any potential chance to shine in the coming weeks.

This will heighten if the NFL does reduce the preseason by two games. Bayless might only get two or three targets thrown his way during this time. And it is vital he makes the most out of these opportunities.

Bayless was one of the country’s top wideouts in 2019 on his way to 93 receptions, 1,653 receiving yards, 17 touchdowns, and a yards-per-catch average of 17.8. There are some questions regarding his ability to create separation at the next level. But he is a polished route runner that has no trouble catching under pressure.

Carolina’s wide receiving options look to be an area of real strength going into the season. Only time will tell as to whether Bayless can overcome a short timeframe and secure a roster spot.
